Christopher Perry presents Soundies Film Night

6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Rancho Mirage Public Library
Community Room
"Soundies" were short 3-minute films of various 1940's-era jazz, swing, big band and blues performers. These 16mm films were used in a special jukebox called "The Panoram." When a quarter was inserted into the machine, a film image appeared on a glass screen and featured a performance of one of the popular musical artists of the day.

During this evening's performance, numerous vintage Soundies will be projected onto the big screen. Count on seeing filmed performances of such artists as Count Basie, Louis Jordan, Les Brown & Doris Day, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and more. The presentation will, of course, feature live musical accompaniment. Join film historian Christopher Perry on this journey into America's musical past. It's sure to be memorable!
