There are places in the universe which hold more secrets than others—places which are apparently cut off from the rest of existence. These places may be entered; however, once inside nothing, not even light, can escape. It is by gravity that even light is prevented from escaping, and this property is what earns these places the title of black holes. Black holes are often discussed but poorly understood. Nevertheless, mankind has worked intently to peer behind the veil of the event horizon. What we have found not only bends space and time but also our understanding of how the universe works.
