What can we learn from the decisions, opportunities, mistakes and successes of fictional characters? Join author Bruce Craven as he discusses his decision to use fictional narratives to teach leadership to graduate business students and how these leadership and life lessons can apply to everyone. For close to thirty years, Bruce has worked in two apparently different professional fields: teaching executive education while pursuing independent projects in writing. The lessons he learned while living in these two worlds inspired him to create his popular Columbia Business School elective, Leadership Through Fiction, which ultimately led to the writing of his book Win or Die: Leadership Secrets from Game of Thrones (Thomas Dunne Books, March 2019). As a member of the Columbia Business School Executive Education faculty, Bruce also serves as program director of the Advanced Management Program and faculty director of several custom executive education programs. He will be releasing a collection of poetry in 2019 with Red Dirt Press. He studied politics and literature at UC Santa Cruz and received his MFA in Writing from Columbia School of the Arts. He lives with his wife and two sons in the Coachella Valley.
